Thomas Goering - Bowmaker

Mr. Thomas Goering is an excellent bow maker which I came to know recently. Today I went to pick up one of my bows which needed a bit of TLC and took the following shots. I'm fascinated by people like Tom who create beautiful and useful things with their own hands from scratch. Tom's workshop doesn't have much light so I shot everything mostly wide open f/1.8 or f/2.8 with my 50mm. Since bow making is such an old craft I decided to use a duo tone treatment for the shots to better represent what I felt being there. In this case the absence of color makes everything look timeless. The same shots could have been very well made in 1911...

  1. Christian, these are such beautiful photos! I didn't realize you had this other talent :) I just bought one of Tom's bows today, thanks for your help in getting the bows to me through Ben.
